Varicose Vein Foam Therapy

Varicose vein foam therapy is not really a new procedure but in some countries it is not used very often.  There are however, doctors who are taking a second look at this type of treatment for varicose veins, especially the larger veins that do not respond well to sclerotherapy.

Varicose vein foam therapy in India uses a foam sclerosing solution rather than a liquid solution. It operates on the same principle of shaving cream that becomes a foam when it is no longer compressed. The foam will cling to the surface of the veins much easier than a liquid will. The foam causes irritation to the inside of the vein and causes the vein to shrink. The foam also causes an inflammatory action in the vein that makes the vein close up. This type of therapy seems to be more effective on large veins because the foam swells to fit snugly inside the vein. Often this can help one avoid having surgery which is a more expensive procedure.

Cpt foam sclerotherapy contains detergent sclerosing agents such as sodium tetradecyl sulfate and polidocanol. These agents are vigorously mixed with air which will create the foamy solution.

Varicose vein foam therapy in India has been used for many different types of abnormal veins in the lower part of the body but it seems to work best on the small veins that can be viewed just below the surface of the skin. Many people find that this type of treatment works well on spider veins also.

For the past few years another type of varicose vein foam therapy treatment has been used which utilizes ultrasound to guide the foam to the right area of the vein.  This type of treatment is done when the veins are deep below the surface of the skin and cannot be viewed by the naked eye. The ultrasound allows the doctor to reach his target easily. The doctor can do one or more veins at a time during this type of procedure. It also can be done in the doctor’s office without anesthesia. There is only a small amount of discomfort during the procedure and this discomfort goes away within a few minutes after the procedure is finished.

People who receive cpt foam sclerotherapy may experience some possible side effects but they are usually not severe or dangerous. People who suffer from migraine headaches may find that they develop a headache. If you often suffer from migraines you doctor can give you a pill to take before the procedure that will help prevent the headache from starting. Other patients have reported a cough that develops but it is usually not severe and as a rule does not last very long. Also, you may experience tenderness in the area where you received the injection.  It is usually not severe enough to require any type of narcotic, but can usually be controlled by an over the counter pain killer such as ibuprofen.

If you suffer from varicose veins you should talk to your doctor about varicose vein foam therapy. Chances are that you and your doctor will agree that it is the best treatment option for you.
